“Working with one’s hands teaches creative and free thinking. People who practice handwork learn that their focus and concentration turns materials into an object of beauty. Practicing handwork also teaches hand-eye coordination and resiliency through habit, and promotes feelings of mindfulness and presence.”
Meret Piderman was born in New York to Swiss artists. Her mom sewed many of her clothes; starting at an early age Meret had access to her mother’s sewing room and all the art supplies she could ever want.
Meret received a BFA from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City, with a specialty in Fashion Design. While living in Italy for five years she taught Fine Art at the International School of Venice.
Meret has been teaching textile arts and ceramics to young people 3 to 18 for over 20 years. She has taught over 1000 children in the USA and Italy. She is also a polyglot, speaking Swiss German, Italian, and a bit of French.
Presently she can be found teaching handwork to children in Northern California. She is available for workshops and collaborations worldwide.
